Prairie paragliding will be offering a complete P1/P2 course July 14th-30th 2026 based in Dawson City Yukon. This course is intended for students with no prior experience paragliding, and by the completion of the course students will have earned their P2 rating allowing them to continue flying independently.

The course will run all day for all of the scheduled days. Depending on weather students should expect ~6 hours training each day as two 3 hour blocks (morning/afternoon and evening) with a long break. Though it may be possible to complete the course attending only one block on week days, and both blocks on weekends, success will be highly sensitive to weather. The tentative schedule for the course is:

  • July 14th & 15th P1 Ground Training – All students need to be available all day for this portion*. Students not completing the ground training, or having insufficient ground skills will not be able to safely participate in the remainder of the course.**
  • July 16th & 17th P1 Low flights, P1 Exam (Top of the World sites)
  • July 18th-26th P2 Training Flights (Top of the World sites)
  • July 27th-30th P2 Training High Flights, P2 Exam (Midnight Dome)

* Dave McDonald has volunteered to provide some ground training prior to the course, students who participate in this and have Dave’s support may be allowed partial attendance to the ground training.
** Schedule may be adjusted where needed for students needing additional ground time, however, the needs of all students must be considered and adjustment may not be possible.

The course will be based in Dawson City, but will travel to several locations for training. Students will need to arrange their own transportation among the group.

Prior to the course students will need to complete the online grounds school.

Spots are limited to 8 to ensure that students get the feedback they need to complete this intensive course. There is a minimum enrolment of 4 students to make this course possible. Priority will be given to Yukon residents.

Equipment will be provided (students will need to bring their own helmet, gloves, and appropriate footwear), however, students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own equipment so they can continue flying. A discount will be offered with purchase of equipment. Students should not purchase any used equipment without consultation with the instructor, as the used market is of varying quality and safety.
